The
legislation in respect of the climate change levy will come into effect in
April 2001, it will have an impact on the compressed air market and therefore
we are preparing information that will assist your queries in respect of levies and enhanced capital
allowances, etc.
As you are
aware there are two critical areas of interest when choosing air
compressors or for that matter any other equipment.
- The
proposed levy/tax will be applied to the cost of all electricity
consumed and therefore it follows that by using less energy we will
pay less tax. Energy saving features and efficient operation therefore
will be at the forefront of general requirements.
This may mean that variable speed drives may be an attractive
proposition but so will be the fitting of high efficiency motors and
energy management systems especially sequencing control systems with
programmable capability.
- Enhanced
capital allowances will be available on the purchase of equipment
fitted with variable speed drives or high efficiency (EFF1) motors.
These vary according to the size of the compressor and the
exact figures can be seen on the DETR website: http://www.eca.gov.uk
ABAC, as a responsible manufacturer have studied the implications of the
above legislation and have already introduced new features to our products
which will enable us to comply with the consequences of the climate change levy etc.
We shall be introducing EFF1 motors across the range (these are
already fitted to the majority of our screw compressors) and variable
speed drive will be available on all screw compressors 37kW and above.
We
shall be supplying more specific information at a later date in these
pages.
