As the lever is pulled, the compressed air flow is increased, this creates a siphon effect (Venturi effect) just before the nozzle thus pulling up the paint from the pot.

The compressed air flow also gives energy & speed to the spray paint.

Using the flow adjustment knob one can regulate the amount of paint being released at the nozzle and the shape of the spray fan.
